The Invasion (2007)

Score: 7/10

I heard that this movie is the fourth adaptation from a novel called The Body Snatchers. Well I haven’t read the book and haven’t watched the previous three. Basically the story revolves around alien organisms who try to control all human beings. They make all humans alike in behaviors and thus there will be peace in the earth (I have no idea why the aliens want to do that). The main characters in the movie are a psychiatrist named Carol (Nicole Kidman) and her son, Oliver (Jackson Bond). The movie follows these two everywhere in their efforts to get away from the alien invasion.

The story of the movie is very simple and very easy to be guessed. You will know the outcome in the end and what will happen in certain scenes. Besides these shortcomings, I still find that the movie is quite entertaining. I like the way it maintains the suspension. There are many occasions where Carol and Oliver keep us on the edge of our seats. We seem like want to push them to keep moving forward and run away.

Another good thing about the movie is the acting of Nicole and Jackson. Nicole is perfect as a protective mother who will do anything to save her son. We can she how she also gets panic in some situations as what a normal person will do (not like a super mom). She also appears smart and exceedingly elegant when necessary. A nine-year old Jackson also performs remarkably. He has a very adorable look and shows a good range of emotions throughout the movie. We can expect to see him more in the future. Daniel Craig also appears in the movie as Ben, Carol’s good friend. Nothing to comment about him though because he only needs to appear cool and dandy.

In a nutshell, I still recommend this movie, especially if you are a thriller movie fan. Don’t pay attention much to the story, just enjoy the chase and the suspension it brings.
