Twilight (2008)

Score: 7/10

Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) moves to live with her sheriff father (Billy Burke) because her mom decides to travel with her new husband. The town where she moves is called Forks. It’s a gloomy place with lots of rain. Even if she’s an introvert, she can socialize well with other kids in her new school.

Not long after, she is drawn to the good looking, cool, rich boy named Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). He is an adopted son of a well-known doctor in that town and he also has four other siblings. The five siblings create their own group and do not mingle with other students much.

Bella and Edward don’t get along in the beginning. Edward always acts strangely around her. Over time, they develop affection towards each other. Edward even saves Bella from a car accident that should have been killed her. From that point on, she realizes that Edward is different, perhaps even not human. With some personal investigations, she realizes that Edward is actually a vampire. His whole family is vampires.

Edward also admits the truth and the relationship goes well (even though he has to control himself not to eat Bella). The vampire family even accepts Bella in their own. The peaceful relationship does not last long though because some vampires from other areas visit the town and killing some people. They also target Bella as their next victim.

I watched the movie without any expectation. I heard many girls are crazy about this movie (it’s more about Edward though, not the movie). Surprisingly, I feel that Twilight is quite entertaining. Basically this is a typical love story. Two persons from different family background fall in love to each other and they do not want to be separated in spite of their differences.

There are some action sequences on the plot, but do not expect a typical vampire movie because this is nothing like it. The acting is decent throughout. Kristen performs well and shows a wide range of emotions. Robert is not bad either as a super cool and pretty boy. This is definitely an appealing movie for its targeted audience.
