The Matrix (1999)

This is a fascinating and cool movie with a brilliant concept. It is the first of its kind and will become the benchmark for future movies. The movie starts with Trinity (Carrie Ann-Moss) being chased by polices and agents (Hugo Weaving is one of them). She manages to defeat those polices easily, but the agents are different and she has to run away. Fortunately she manages to escape.

Then the movie moves to another character called Thomas Anderson in the workplace or Neo (Keanu Reeves) in a hacker world. Morpheus (Laurence Fishbourne) warns Neo that the agents are looking for him. Morpheus meets Neo and he says that he has the truth if Neo is willing to know. The truth is very shocking and the reality is actually unreal because it is only the matrix created by machines. Human world is close to its extinction and that is the real truth. Later on there are many fighting sequences between human and the agents. Morpheus always believes that Neo is special and he trains Neo as best as he can. In the end, Neo realizes what he truly is and accepts his role as the one.

I cannot say much further without betraying the plot and spoil your excitement in watching the movie. What I can say is that the logic behind the story is excellent. The acting is decent for an action movie and the dialogues are well developed. The CGI is excellent throughout.

The best part is definitely the fighting and there are tons of it in this movie. With sunglasses and dark outfits, everyone just looks cool in every engagement. The fighting between Keanu and Laurence as well as Keanu and Hugo is the main course in the Matrix. With slow-mo and rock music, the movie becomes even more exciting. Even the camera movement also offers something different. This is something that you should not miss.

In the past, there was a conflict between the machines and human. Human even managed to scorch the sun so the machines will lose their main source of power. The machines found another way to get power and they are using human. Human produces heat and electricity that the machines need. In fact, the machines even farm human to harness this energy.

The matrix is created by the machines for all human who are under their control. It is like a dream during deep sleep. The matrix resembles our world today, but in reality it is a kind of computer program to make the farmed human believes that they are doing their normal activities while in fact they are sleeping somewhere in the machine world.

Some human survives this slavery and they live deep underground in a city called Zion. The only human city left on and in earth. These survivors try to hack the matrix and revive their fellows from the deep sleep. Neo is one among others who is awakened and taken to the real world. Morpheus believes that Neo is the one or the savior who will free entire human race from machine slavery.
