Transformers (2007)

Score: 8/10

The plotline is very simple, but director Michael Bay provides enough action, comedy, and a touch of drama to make it a very long movie. It feels a bit too long indeed, but I can enjoy every scene without problem. A lot of people grew up with Transformers books and toys, which makes this movie was highly anticipated.

Transformers are alien robots from far away planet. They can transform themselves into electrical and mechanical devices, but mostly into vehicles. There are two groups of robots that fight against each other. The good group is Autobots led by Optimus Prime and the bad one is Decepticons led by Megatron. Their conflict has destroyed their home planet and now they bring their conflict to earth.

The cause of the war is a cube that can be used to … rule the world (I guess). Honestly I got confuse with the function of this cube in the movie. Anyway, the person who knows the location of this cube is Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf). Thus the two groups start chasing this young man everyone. Autobots want to protect him, while Decepticons want to destroy him and get the cube.

There are some comedies scattered throughout the movie and they successfully hit the mark. The action and fighting scene between the robots are just excellent. The CGI is incredible. All visual effects blend perfectly with the real things in the movie. It is also a noisy movie with booming sound effects that are suitable for this kind of movie. All acting performances are good and Shia LaBeouf, who portrays the main human character, performs amazingly.

I am not quite sure what has happened in the end of the movie and how the Decepticons are destroyed. They speak something about the cube, but I just can’t comprehend it. Anyway, you should not expect a good storyline for this kind of movie, so I have no big problem about that. All in all this is still a good movie to watch for spending your relax time.
