Peter Pan (2003)

Score: 7/10

Everything seems dreamy and colorful in this movie and I like it. The story is not exactly the same as the story in J.M. Barrie book, but most of the basics are there. I suppose many of you have heard the story of Peter Pan. It’s all start with the Darling family. There are three children in the family, Wendy (Rachel Hurt-Wood), John (Harry Newell), and Michael (Freddie Popplewell).

One night Peter Pan (Jeremy Sumpter) comes into their house and brings the three kids to Neverland where kids will never grow up. Of course not all are beautiful as Captain Hook (Jason Isaacs) always tries to kill Peter and other kids. The coming of the new kids, especially Wendy, changes the ordinary activities in Neverland. She rouses a new feeling that Peter never experiences before. Hook uses this for his advantage to capture all the kids and defeat Peter.

The movie is indeed entertaining and everyone performs admirably. Jeremy Sumpter is a handsome boy with that mischievous look that suits for the role of Peter Pan. Rachel Hurt-Wood is brilliant as Wendy Darling. She shows all ranges of emotions successfully. The interaction between Jeremy and Rachel is the movie is just so sweet. Jason Isaacs also performs well in two roles as Captain Hook and Mr. Darling (did you notice this in the movie?).

In general the story is satisfactorily although you cannot accept all the fighting seriously (a bunch of kids can stand against supposedly fierce pirates). There are some humors here and there, which make the movie more enjoyable. There are some serious and touching moments as well. The last quarter part is strong and emotional.

The CGI looks great and colorful. It is what you get in a dream, but it does not seem out of place. The musical score is beautiful and I really like it. Some people may think that the movie is childish. Well, you need to rouse the children inside you to enjoy a movie about a boy who never grows up.
