The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008)

Score: 8/10

This second installment is definitely darker than the first one. It's been a year since Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie have left their magical kingdom, but 1300 years have passed in Narnia. Things have changed, Telmarines, a human race, have ruled the kingdom. They have killed nearly all of creatures of Narnia.

Prince Caspian is the rightful heir for the Telmarine throne, but since he is still too young, Miraz, the brother of late King Caspian IX, is the one who takes care the kingdom. When Miraz has a son, he declares himself as a king and wants to kill Prince Caspian. The prince runs into the wilderness and meets several Narnians, a dwarf, a talking badger, and a sword-wielding mouse. The prince also blows the magical horn that belongs to Susie in the previous movie and this horn summons the four Pevensies.

Caspian and the four rally all creatures of Narnia to fight against Miraz and to bring peace between Narnians and Telmarines. With superior military power, the Telmarines are set to win the battle. Lucy is the only one who believes that Aslan, the great lion, is the only one who can save them. In the end, she travels alone looking for Aslan, while others defend their last ground.

Audience who enjoy the first installment will cheris this second one. All the children look more matured and every one performs nicely. The battle is more vigorous than the first one and the CGI is definitely improving. You can witness stronger emotional struggles and competitions even between the good guys. Christianity is portrayed clearly in the movie. Basically it says that faith is more important that your own efforts. Ask and it will be given to you.

This is for sure a good movie, but I give a lower score than the first one because I feel that it looses its originality as well as the excitement from the characters. The ending is also a bit off, lacks of emotional experiences as the first one. In overall, I am still really satisfied by it and looking forward for the third one.
